Feelings happen for us.
When children learn that emotions carry information — not just intensity — they grow resilient, thoughtful, and confident from the inside out
Book 1 - A story about Disappointment
The Ember Compass
When Casey’s birthday plans fall apart, disappointment hits hard. Really hard.
Under the big oak tree in the backyard, Casey discovers something unexpected: a strange, glowing compass with no directions—only questions.
Guided by the Ember Compass and a few surprising companions, Casey learns that feelings don’t show up to ruin things. Feelings show up because something important is happening inside. Even the uncomfortable ones. Especially the uncomfortable ones.
Because feelings don’t happen to us.
They happen for us.
P.S. Pip is real. She found the compass first. 🐾

For the moments when feelings feel bigger than words.
Flippin' Feels Plushies
Soft anchors for complicated feelings.
Our extra-soft, reversible plush companions bring the Feels characters to life — including their “flip sides.”
They give kids something steady to hold while they sort through what’s happening inside. Instead of being the feeling, they can notice it, turn it over, and talk to it.
These companions don’t fix emotions — they help kids face them. A warm, tangible reminder that even big feelings are good inside — and so are they.
Launching Soon - Be the First in Line
"G (8) finished the book and immediately asked when Book 2 would be ready — then started imagining what other ‘Feels’ might have ‘Flip Sides.’ Watching him explain, ‘Feelings don’t happen to us, they happen for us,’ to his younger brother was one of those winning parenting moments I’ll never forget."
"H (6) asked to cuddle the plush at bedtime, slept with it all night, and carried it into my room in the morning with the book asking to keep reading before breakfast. This story didn’t just land — it sticks!"

About the Author
Hi — I'm Elizabeth. Mom to three boys, researcher, and the author of something I hope finds the families who need it most.
I created Flippin' Feels because I live in a house full of big feelings — and because I wanted my kids to have something I never had: a story that showed them their feelings weren't enemies. That every uncomfortable emotion carries a message. That something good is always waiting on the other side.
For a while, I thought my PhD and nearly two decades working with families meant I had the right words for the hard moments.
My boys taught me otherwise.
Every time I tried to share what I knew — even in small pieces, even at the right moment — their eyes would glaze over. I could feel them checking out. The insights I'd spent years gathering weren't landing. Not because they were wrong, but because nobody wants a lecture. Not even from someone who loves them.
But books? Books they love. They'd curl up with a story and carry its messages for years — recalling characters and plotlines for years.
So, I decided to get creative. I took everything I knew about emotions and wrapped it in a story world they could love with characters they could hold onto, and messages they will remember long after the last page.
That's how Flippin' Feels began. Everything I'd learned through years of research, finally landing where it was always meant to — in a bedtime story.
It Began with a Simple Observation:
Kiddos often feel deeply long before they can explain what they’re experiencing.
A disappointment that lingers.
A worry that won’t quiet.
A burst of joy that feels too big to hold alone.
Flippin’ Feels is a story world created for those moments.
Through characters, books, and simple conversation tools, this work helps make feelings more speakable — and connection easier to hold onto.
This world is still unfolding.
And you’re warmly invited to be part of what's unfolding.
